Pedogenesis problems on reclaimed coal mining sites

چکیده
Open-cast coal mining presents a big global issue because of the large areas mines occupy, which get entirely changed. Their ecosystems lose most their functions, and huge amount fertile soil gets utterly destroyed. Reclamation is process returning functions after excavation finished, commonly achieved by establishing vegetation, can sometimes be very difficult. This happens due to physical, chemical biological changes that occur on these sites, are described in this paper. Also, some directions for mitigating problems given. Once vegetation successfully introduced, natural cycles were compromised established once again, formation begins. Some trends related pedogenesis research reclaimed mine sites presented discussed, along with presumptions how evolves afforested clayey Technosols central Europe. The potential future would confirm emphasis need performed older reclamation as well similar ecological conditions different tree species cover.

Microbial Biomass in Reclaimed Soils following Coal Mining in Virginia1
It is well known that soil microbial communities reestablish following disturbance, but limited research has been done on how long this takes in eastern reclaimed coal mine soils. The objective of this study was to track the development of total microbial biomass in reclaimed mine soils following coal mining in southwestern Virginia. A chronosequence of sites was established based on locally do...

Phosphate mining operations in southeastern Idaho have exposed selenium (Se) that was originally sequestered in the subsurface. Sheep grazing in these areas have died as a result of high Se concentrations in forage and water. This study was designed to monitor the health status of sheep grazing in a natural environment with known elevated levels of Se. A total of 72 Columbia x Suffolk sheep wer...
متن کاملLiving near opencast coal mining sites and children's respiratory health.
OBJECTIVES To answer the question whether living near opencast coal mining sites affects acute and chronic respiratory health. METHODS All 4860 children aged 1-11 from five socioeconomically matched pairs of communities close to active opencast sites and control sites away from them were selected. Exposure was assessed by concentrations of particulate matter with aerodynamic diameter < 10 mic...
